    definitely paul.  the dog at least provides enough action to set off the motion detectors.   Paul can sit in a room for hours with no motion.  Even when Leora is running around with that gorgeous ass hanging out

    my answer to why he cools down the way he does and to why he ignores her so much . . . he is a Russian man.  kind of like if you are in a muslim country like Saudi Arabia . . . women come 2nd behind the man.  sort of like " when I am finished with you, be gone!  I have no more use for you today.  go clean the house or something!"  if he is affectionate, he is obviously in a mood, if she is affectionate, she is begging for attention . . .
