You could try downloading them first (right click-> save as) and then try to play them with your preferred player. If that doesn't do the trick try downloading and installing the K-lite codec pack. It fixes 99% of the codec related problems and has a player that plays almost anything. (though I'm not sure whether there is a Linux version available)
